Past, Present and Future

It has been an eventful week. We have been to a French funeral for our friend's mother. At the same time, Berlin-based friends have visited and lots of interesting conversations took place about the past, present and future. So, "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." (Robert Breault).

Feng Shui – The Outside Looking In

Come On Inside An English philosopher, Stephen Gardiner, wrote, “The interior of the house personifies the private world; the exterior of it is part of the outside world”. That about sums it up. When considering the outside garden, the road and surrounding area, there are more complex Feng Shui points to consider and I recommend checking out Clear Englebert’s books for a range of information on roads and the outside area, particularly if you are buying a house with a garden.  The key focus of this blog is about balancing the interior but what is happening outside is also

Open the Door

"When one door closes another door opens. Usually a refrigerator", says Bonnie Macfarlane, a Canadian comedienne. At the moment as we are still in a very quiet real estate market trying to sell a lovely apartment, it does feel that the doors are closed. We wait and endeavour to enjoy the summer, sand and sea with the support of good friends, food and a cocktail or two. That fridge is working overtime!

The Bagua Map

Ready, Set, Go! As we get in to the real practice and methods, I realise that my Feng Shui blog started in 2018 and here we are in 2025. It has been a lot of information and learning over the years including changes of countries, cities and apartments along the way and I am still an active student. One of the biggest points to understand is that Feng Shui is about balancing what you can control and then using positive affirmations to attract positive situations. It isn’t about moving the furniture and picking the right cushions and then sitting

Feng Shui Poison Arrows!

Poison Arrows - They Won’t Kill You Having read about these you may be asking what are they? They are the sharp angles that point towards your house or can be found within your living space. They are often seen in city landscapes with modern design jutting out with sharp metal and glass and due to the architect's desire to create a new building style. In my view, they often don't make sense as they look like a waste of interior space with strange internal walls and with lots of glass, the need to regulate internal temperatures must be

Back to the Beach

As life is still in limbo as we sell the apartment, the beach beckons. Summer is here, the water is warming up and the azur salty sea is a balm to frustration and boredom. Tomorrow is another day!

Feng Shui, The Career & Life Path

Career & Life Path - Where Am I Going? Robert Frost said, “Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the road less travelled and that has made all the difference”. Having worked in global recruitment for many years, I advise young people that they will likely have many different careers and to say yes to any opportunity that isn’t illegal or hurts them or anyone else. All experience is useful and is part of our life path.  This area is often at the front door and it is where we align the Bagua Map.  The natural

A June Afternoon

"June is the gateway to summer" said Jean Hersey. We are finally here in to blue sky days with the sea almost at swimming temperature. Sweet melons are appearing and everything feels lighter and brighter.  Even the shops are decorated in lemons, cherries and sunshiny colours. It feels as if at least here, everyone seems sunnier and happier.

Wood – Feng Shui Elements

Wood - Hug a Tree “Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.” - Kahlil Gabran. When we walk through forests, the smell of wood is said to be beneficial for our health as we are breathing in their oxygen and the trees thrive on our carbon dioxide. What a synergy and we are still cutting them down. That being said, the island/state of Tasmania has stopped cutting down the beautiful honey-coloured Huon Pine trees, once loved to make boats due to the dense oil. Now only old wood or dead trees can be used and the

Have A Seat

The Cannes Film Festival is on again and sadly, it is not the glamour of the 1950s with new and fading celebrities visiting the town and restaurants. The two weeks have become a huge business event where private parties are held in luxury hotels and everything is double the price. That being said, there is a sense of entertainment in the air and each year Nespresso creates a fun club that celebrates the past eras with a different colour each festival. Last year was bright orange, this year offers the sunny colours of pistachio green and gelato lemon. We
