A Little Blue

“I’ve been feeling a little blue — just a pale, elusive azure. It isn’t serious enough for anything darker.” – L. M. Montgomery.  As we flip flop through another French lockdown, I was lucky enough today to take a walk over to a lovely beach called La Garoupe. Normally full of striped happy parasols, it was quiet and the turquoise water shone in the early spring sun. Not quite enough warmth yet but a breath of what is to come and soothing all the same. I have written posts on my favourite colour - whatever you call it, aqua,

Colour Your World – Interior Colours

“You create your own decoration. You choose your color, you choose your mood..if you are depressed, you put on some bright yellow and suddenly you are happy.” – Phillip Starck. A perfect quote as it is particularly true at the moment. Daffodils and multi-coloured anemones are appearing in local markets and I find myself drawn to cherry red roses and purple iris to brighten a room. Brighter fabrics and interior accessories are appearing in stores and we all need a spot of happiness.   Move Out of Your Comfort Zone! It is not suggested that you suddenly break out

Interior Inspiration

We have had lockdowns in the South of France for the last two weekends which means little inspiration around interior design or Feng Shui. We are about to finally sign for our apartment so watch this space for more Feng Shui conversations next week!

Feng Shui Conversations – The Wealth Sector

Wealth comes in many forms including abundance in health, wealth, wisdom, love and friendship. Whatever you are activating, do it with intent but ensure you are focused. Our key focus is on wealth to sell our first Antibes apartment for a great price to lovely people and quickly. There is my intent - a lot to ask for during a pandemic but I am putting it out there! Our living room is where we spend most of our time and it is in the Wealth sector. This means brighter colours and decor which we love to use to activate

Feng Shui – the Relationship Corner

Charles Schulz said, "All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt." Today is Valentine's Day, a day when many seek affirmation of love and happiness. Some friends have the full blown romantic dinner with chocolate hearts, another friend made heart-shaped pizzas with his two daughters and my husband as always, started my morning off with a cup of coffee in my favourite cup with just the right amount of milk. In 2021, relationships are key to supporting many of us getting through a bewildering time. Some friends are separated by water from the

Sort out the Sofa

Fran Lebowitz  said, "A woman's quest in life should be to find the perfect apartment. And I have found the perfect apartment. The perfect apartment is the first floor of the Metropolitan Museum. With a sofa." Now that sounds like perfection to me! Sofas, after beds, are probably the most sought after places at the moment. It is the first place to land with a morning coffee, then to relax for five minutes after meetings and then the final seat for the evening. It is a big investment and you need to test drive them and go for what

Feng Shui Tips

My Feng Shui mentor, Clear Englebert has counselled me through so many living spaces from a Malaysian apartment, an 18th century townhouse, classic New York high rise shoebox, German Hof space and now in France in a small but lovely final location. Although I believe I am good student, I seek his wisdom to help me balance the space for my interior harmony. There are some key tools that are constantly needed and some great tips that you can consider immediately. I do recommend his book Feng Shui Demystified and you can read my interview with him in another

Black and White

An interior designer, Jan Showers, stated that, "every room needs a touch of black just as it needs at least one antique piece". It is all about how to use positive or negative space which can be white or black which allows the other colour to really stand out. It can be really dramatic or simple and calm and there are so many tones of white and black that can be blended for a chic combination. Before getting started, there are some key decisions to make first:   What style are you going for - modern, shabby chic, Art Deco

Natural Neutrals

All I can see for miles of homewares is neutral, dull furniture. Without meaning to sound frivolous, I wonder if the pandemic has also had an impact in going neutral to get through all of this. Even Dior is making tracksuits - Lagerfeld said, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants.” Perhaps, going neutral is a way of controlling what is going on. We have gone in to the Neutral Zone! What is interesting is that in Feng Shui, this is the Earth element and is about grounding and

How to Work Remotely – Back to the Office

Back to work tomorrow for many of us and that means for most, back to having dual working spaces, partners and online meetings. At the moment, many are working between two different rooms as online calls take place at the same time as those of other family or flatmates. It isn't easy especially when volume is required, confidentiality and space. Here's hoping that by February, crossing fingers, we will have the apartment below which will merge two small places together. A staircase is the next venture, something that hasn't been on our list before. However, a key joy will
