The Magic Lamp

I love the reflection that different lights, lamps and candles can offer in a room. These lamps are in an Indian restaurant in Berlin. Restaurants can often offer new interior design ideas as the rooms need to entice, retain diners and at the same time be functional. Going to a lovely Japanese restaurant and promise to bore you with a photo or two!

The Self Knowledge Sector

Self Knowledge & Cultivation “There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” – Aldous Leonard Huxley. It is likely that your front door opens in to this section as does mine. This is an area often overlooked being the area for skills, self study and understanding of other parts of your life. It can involve study, developing knowledge and also, finding a better sense of your world. Key Feng Shui tip: sometimes your front door opens straight to a staircase, or has the 'corridor effect' resulting in the

How to Decorate on a Dollar

I love interior design magazines and use them for inspiration however; the result is beautiful but often surprisingly lacking in soul. Not many of us have a huge budget to decorate and over the years, with a limited budget, here are some key findings. Stripped, Painted or Papered Yes, it can be a pain but the results are worth the effort. First, look around at what you have, rethink how you might use it. Can it be stripped, papered or painted? My favourite is to paint - there is instant gratification and change. I have used this approach in a

My Latest Find

I am always inspired by flea markets, brocantes, flohmarkts - in all shapes and sizes. It is like hunting for treasure - you may find something, you may not. Two silver salt shells were waiting for me and being of the sea, I instantly fell in love.

The Front Door

Where Do I Start? Using the Bagua Map, you should have completed the process below. Create a drawing of your whole space within a square Place the map on a drawing of your whole living place using the wall that has the main entrance as if you are entering in the front door – see my Logo! Write on your drawing which rooms or areas are in each square – for example, the kitchen may be in the Health sector Identify ‘missing’ spaces, don’t panic, many of us live in L-shape spaces and there are simple remedies Highlight the

Find Your Feng Shui

It’s Complicated. Feng Shui is based on our Chi, our life energy and how we interact with our environment. Like me, you will end up reading so much that is confusing.  There is the original ancient compass method including your personal birth calculation and other aspects, but they are wrapped up in Old Chinese culture, lifestyle and architecture. We will follow the modern Black Hat Method. Using the 5 elements and colour map, an interior space can be created that sings to you. I am so lucky to have found my mentor, Clear Englebert, and you will soon see

4 Easy Places for Interior Inspiration

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious..” Stephen Hawking. The first time I really picked up a camera, I read somewhere to look up, find inspiration in architecture, objects, light reflection and small pieces. I use my eye to look around a corner to seek the unexpected, this is what inspires my decor. When decorating or renewing a space, there are many blogs, Pinterest, Instagram and other social media to find instant snapshots. There are additional

My Place, My Space

Follow my blog with Bloglovin “The home should be the treasure chest of living.” Le Corbusier. We lived in an amazing city, Berlin, with its truly international, diverse history, architecture and challenging bureaucracy. We had a lovely apartment that felt as if we where in a treehouse and it had a gentle but fun energy. The colours were perfect with soft hues of sky blue, cafe latte and cream. But my heart lies near the sea in all seasons and I have a strong connection with the French culture. The South of France is an escape from the cold,
