Recycling Furniture

Recycling Furniture It is crazy to think of how we renovated our tiny apartment in the South of France whilst working on a budget. l love recycling furniture or items that I have, so we drove down with a car full of household goods including a cabinet and chairs. Other posts show the changes that we made using a backdrop of white with apple green and pale lemon tones. All Feng Shui elements taken in to consideration! The bedroom was a lovely dove grey with soft metal elements. Recover That Chair We have 2 lovely German chairs that we

The Wealth & Prosperity Sector

"Not what we have but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance" Epicurus I see this sector as representing abundance and prosperity in all aspects of your life, not just money. Abundance and prosperity is about nourishment of wealth, career, friends and health. This is the sector to place items and symbols that mean prosperity to you. It is the far left corner of your whole place and can also be the far left corner of each room as you enter a room from the main door.   Purple and Green The key colour is purple and not an easy colour to

Staircases

Staircases are often part of the entrance to your place or at least to your building. When buying or renting a space, feel what the entrance says to you. Is there light, is it dowdy, clean and has fresh air. Ideally, it should not be placed at the front door or in the middle of the house. If right at the front door, the energy rushes up and back down constantly. Feng Shui says to avoid it but this is often a characteristic in European homes. Place small items or lamps on the stairs which ensures people take their

Meet Me in Miami!

Different cities and places are great inspiration for interior decorating and design. Miami offers a sharp, brilliant blue with Art Deco flair throwing gelato colours on walls. It is perfect for anyone with flair. You will see gold staircases mixed with black and white faux fur, azure blue opposite ice pink and always that twist of being in a dance with a cocktail in your hand.

The Family & Health Sector – Feng Shui

The Family & Health Sector This sector is the middle left part of the Bagua map and the left centre part of your floor plan within your space. The area focuses on our family, however you define that. It is about our definition of community, for some this means relatives and for some, this is about close friendships who are the chosen family. It is often a communal area for people to meet and eat. Another focus is around your strength and health emotionally and physically, and general resilience in life.   Working with Wood Key colours are green

How to Buy in Fleamarkets, Flohmarkts, Brocantes

Hunting for Treasure I love flea markets, flohmarkts and brocantes - the chance of finding that perfect piece to add your space. Key items I look out for; cocktail glasses, teacups, Art Deco and 1940s dishes and silverware. Another friend looks out for clothes, buttons, vintage bags and another only buys small boxes. Different markets offer different styles and you will find the one that suits you.     Some key tips to follow Find the market that suits your style - furniture, shabby chic, modern, cheap and cheerful Get there half an hour before the official opening time,

The Magic Lamp

I love the reflection that different lights, lamps and candles can offer in a room. These lamps are in an Indian restaurant in Berlin. Restaurants can often offer new interior design ideas as the rooms need to entice, retain diners and at the same time be functional. Going to a lovely Japanese restaurant and promise to bore you with a photo or two!

The Self Knowledge Sector

Self Knowledge & Cultivation “There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” – Aldous Leonard Huxley. It is likely that your front door opens in to this section as does mine. This is an area often overlooked being the area for skills, self study and understanding of other parts of your life. It can involve study, developing knowledge and also, finding a better sense of your world. Key Feng Shui tip: sometimes your front door opens straight to a staircase, or has the 'corridor effect' resulting in the

How to Decorate on a Dollar

I love interior design magazines and use them for inspiration however; the result is beautiful but often surprisingly lacking in soul. Not many of us have a huge budget to decorate and over the years, with a limited budget, here are some key findings. Stripped, Painted or Papered Yes, it can be a pain but the results are worth the effort. First, look around at what you have, rethink how you might use it. Can it be stripped, papered or painted? My favourite is to paint - there is instant gratification and change. I have used this approach in a

My Latest Find

I am always inspired by flea markets, brocantes, flohmarkts - in all shapes and sizes. It is like hunting for treasure - you may find something, you may not. Two silver salt shells were waiting for me and being of the sea, I instantly fell in love.
