Feng Shui Colours – The Purple Patch!

Purple is the wealth colour in Feng Shui. However, it needs to be used carefully as, like red, it can be too active in most of the Bagua map sectors. Across cultures, it is associated with wealth, nobility and prestige. You don't have to use a lot of it as sometimes a touch is all you need. I am not a fan of the colour but if I need to use it, consider softer lavender tones. It is partnered with the element of Wood and touches of green and purple can be very chic.  If it isn't a favourite

Cocktail Hour!

I am a fan of a really good, traditional cocktail. None of this a can of soda, half a mint plant and a load of ice in a glass! I want style, good liquor and a kick in the head as Dean Martin would say.

Light the Way – Table Lamps

I wait to see a room in its final stages when reviewing ambient lighting. In our past Berlin apartment we were lucky as we faced the morning sun and it was one of the key reasons we bought the apartment. In the winter, there was enough light even on a classic grey and dower day. In the summer, we were surrounded by silver birches and the soft glittery light is wonderful! Light the Way I love lamps as they highlight an area and can offer a wow factor to a room and even a corner. There are stand-alone lamps

Feng Shui Colours – Roses are Red

Red is associated with the element of Fire in Feng Shui. It is in the Fame and Reputation, and Love and Marriage sectors. It is my least favourite colour as I feel jangled if I wear the colour or am surrounded by it. Others love any shade and prefer it to my choice of blue and aqua. However; in Feng Shui, red represents passion, energy and life. Elements of it can activate the right areas in your space but it can also add fire for arguments and over stimulation - makes sense!   No - You Don't Have to

Sweet Dreams

When buying a bed, I happily fling myself on it to see if it is too soft, has enough space, and feels right. I spend as much as I can on a decent bed and I like a firm mattress. We have had two American queen size beds and we love them; however, a Feng Shui tip for relationships - make sure they are not so big that you are separate from each other!     How to Select a Bed Dimensions - consider how big a bed you can fit in or how much space you are willing

Feng Shui Colours – Green, Green, the Grass is Green

There are so many shades of green - from a blue tint to a yellow hue. For Feng Shui, think more of your typical natural greens and textures of trees, plants and natural fabrics. In the Bagua Map, green represents the Wood element and naturally, symbolises growth, new beginnings, healing and good health. It can be used as a dominant colour or touches in cushions and accessories can be enough. If there is too much of the Wood element in the room, it can unbalance the Chi and give a sense of too much happening and over-commitment. This can

Everything Old is New Again

My grandmother kept beautiful things under lock and key in a glass cabinet only to be used for special occasions. I now use vintage cocktail glasses, a silver toast rack and other vintage items to enjoy them.

Tables

Tables are a surface where we leave the flotsam of the day's life - keys, change, earrings and pieces of paper. They are often the centre of a room, be it a dining table, desk or a place to put a lamp and a book. Let's talk tables! The Dining Table Call me old fashioned but I love a big dining table. Don't be afraid of the size. We bought a French nineteenth century, fruit-wood farmhouse table that has had a bit of wear and tear and has one slightly wobbly leg! Check out the size of your dining

Feng Shui Colours – The Blues

Aqua seas, baby blue lakes, deep petrol blue oceans and every other shade of blue - it is all about water in Feng Shui. It is one of my favourite colours and you can mix and match the tones. Colour is one of Feng Shui tools that helps to balance between one element and another. While it doesn't take the place of actual water, it represents water and can accentuate the energy of the area.      Ideally, blue is used in the water element areas of the Bagua map. Blue can also be partnered with the wood element
