As the hot summer temperatures continue and French and Italian tourists swap coasts, the locals wait for the sun to lower before going out for an apéro. Tables and chairs are pulled out and colourful combinations appear competing with the sun bearing down, making it a pretty sight to see. The bright orange of Apérol spritz and cool wine piscines beckon with snacks and people flop around in the coolest clothing they can find and watch people passing by. A recent evening was fascinating as various nods and knowing looks were made as young ones in synthetic pyjama styles suffered, trying to find the same shade as the dogs out for a walk. Others had come from the beach and any kind of chicness had gone west as sand and sea met sunscreen layers. Seating is competed for under umbrellas or if possible, inside for air-conditioning and cranky children go by with me immediately saying, ‘bath and bed’! As people settle down and drinks come out, the atmosphere relaxes in to murmurs and overheard conversations are fascinating and revealing and the rotation of tables occurs.

Feng Shui Blue

In France, you can turn any corner and find a cafe with the national red, white and blue colours. This cafe stuck out as bright blue and cheerful. Tables and chairs were outside the front door and as blue represents water, it was a good choice as it is part of the Career and Life path sector, important for a business. Blue in Feng Shui, represents emotions and flow which is appropriate for the hospitality industry. The combination can look clean and bright and it certainly attracted the tourists and locals alike.

Feng Shui Green

This restaurant was so chic with the pistachio green chairs and bronze tables sending out a vibe of elegant dining. Tables were at the far left of the entrance which is interesting as this is the Self Knowledge sector with green and wood being important. Green represents the Wood element of growth and vitality which suited the business style being offered. It beckoned and we happily had a lovely lunch.

Feng Shui Melange

This Parisian bar/bistro had an interesting colour mix of cream and sky blue with touches of red. Each was a lovely colour to counterbalance the others, just enough to blend. The colour cream represents the Earth element which is all about foundations and grounding. Blue represents Water and red represents Fire and passion. It is in a lively part of Paris and is positioned on a corner with lots of traffic and can’t be missed as if to say, here I am!
