We are finally here and have settled in to a rental apartment for the next three months along with two cats. The cats are proving to be even more adaptable than we are. They found a place in the sun – on top of the piano keyboard, next to the window and are fascinated by all the coming and going. The apartment has been Feng Shui-ed with mirrors and fully cleaned. Yes, there is a cleaner and no, it is not our place,  but here are some tips and tricks that have worked over the years. Just remember, it is a rental serviced apartment which doesn’t mean the standards are always up to scratch.

  • Put away everything you don’t want to use in a box or cupboard, add your energy with your own basic items;
  • Clean every room as it pushes out the stale energy and activates the new;
  • Bathroom – bring your own products, we also brought lovely ceramic soap and moisturiser dispensers we had;
  • Kitchen – clean out everything – the dishwasher needed a full scrub and clean and a vinegar and bicarb of soda wash;
  • Dining – we brought our own plates, glasses and cooking items and it’s been well worth it;
  • Bedroom – our pillows and a bed cover have made it feel like home;
  • Get to know the concierge – they have already changed a broken ironing board and iron.

Once settled we got ourselves down to the beach in the early evening as families and tourists were leaving to prepare for dinner. As the sun set, it was lovely to relax and feel like a local.
