For a long weekend, we are catching up with our Belgian ‘family’. We met by chance eight years ago in a New York restaurant bumping elbows and pardoning each other. We have been friends ever since and promised to see each other once a year. Fast forward sixteen months later and here we are in Sint-Margriete walking in to a BnB and feeling instantly at home. It is a beautiful house in the Belgian countryside with all mod cons offering a sense of peace and calm with a perfect blend of all five Feng Shui elements.

The Feng Shui Cycle

In the cycle, Water feeds Wood which Fire becomes Earth and polishes Metal. The central star shows the destructive cycle. It is important to check the mix of elements. Fire melts metal, reducing energy, Metal cuts down Wood, Water puts out Fire and so on. The key is to encourage the Chi energy to wander around the total home not missing any areas.

Let’s Talk Leather

All things related to animals represent the Fire of life. For more in-depth information, check out Feng Shui Demystified by Clear Englebert.  Think leather, fur and animal statues and these can be faux and are perfect in the Fame section with the Fire element. Clear adds to avoid sea animals in this sector as they represent the element of Water dousing out the Fire energy – not a good thing to do in the Fame area!

A Room With a View

If you recall from other posts, entering a place and immediately seeing the view, no matter how wonderful, means the energy goes right out of the home. Yes, the view can be amazing but here is an example of Chi moving through admiring a room before settling on the view. The chair immediately grabs your attention before you move to the window. It is all about placement. So each day, we eat breakfast watching the light change in a panorama painted by so many and find our inner harmony.
