Tomorrow we are able to go further than 10km from our home and next week, cafes and restaurants are possibly allowed to offer outside spaces. The local places are suddenly alive with the smell of fresh paint, stacked chairs and tables appearing and a definite positive change in the air. Splashes of pink, lime green and lemon decor are appearing in the windows and finally, the dour shades of Vermeer seem to be fading away. Interior decor looks less like living in a monastery and more like a tropical beach bar. Bordering on kitsch but shouting out fun and sun!

Feng Shui Fruit

Fruit is all about abundance and growth but think of the colours and where you are putting any displays, deco or artwork that depict fruit. We have a lovely Malaysian artist’s work all about gathering the golden harvest and both paintings are in the Wealth sector. Check out the colours on the Bagua Map which will guide you. Fruit is also connected with trees and the Wood element. You can have too much growth! It is all about balance. If you like bowls of fruit make sure the fruit is fresh and is eaten. Feng Shui sees withered and dried fruit as symbols of death. Throw away anything dried but using paper or silk is fine.

Tropical Theme

I have a friend who has a flamingo theme going on in his Nice apartment with a Tommy Bahama touch. The decor sends out a sense of fun and lightness. We have gone more for tropical greens and birds with an Asian flair which matches the apartment style and sunlight. Decide which style you are going for and stick to it. If using fruit, choose either classical apples and rich green tones, if a beach style attracts you then look for watermelon colours. Keep to the classic formula of 60% dominant colour, 30% secondary and 10% as a highlight. A great combination would be buttermilk walls, watermelon and lime green for textiles and decor. Throw in some rattan furniture, fun glasses and a cool martini.

Passionfruit Martini

  • 3 Oz. Passionfruit juice
  • 1.5 Oz. Gin
  • .75 Oz. Lime juice
  • Lemon and lime peel for garnish

Key tip: I put all of the ingredients in the fridge. Make some fresh ice with fresh water the day before. If you can, use an ice crusher and add enough ice in your cocktail shaker to fill to half full. Add all the ingredients and then strain in to a classic martini glass with a sliver of lemon or lime to garnish. For a less lethal drink, pour in to a hi-ball glass and add soda water. Happy hour!
