A couple of friends had started to worry about my state of mind with recent posts on bright green, rose and white. But, you love blue! Yes I do and it is still the colour I turn to in decor, fashion and jewellery. But each place we have lived in has offered the colours that should be used. A cottage full of seagreen, sky blue and lemon, a city courtyard house full of beige, aqua and cream, Penang apartments with turmeric silks and white cotton, a French townhouse full of white and grey, our New York shoebox of white, black and beige, Berlin apartments with ivory, tan, sky blue and navy and now a Cote d’Azur apartment with touches of all the spaces we have lived with pieces of furniture and a hint of tropical green and turquoise reflecting in the sun.
Am I Blue?
Every week a day appears that breathes of summer and shops pull out anything blue or pink! It is as if we are waking up and at the moment, we are all savouring those few hours. The emotional effect of blue has been studied and various psychologists discuss how deep teal or navy tones represent confidence, authority and a cool sense of self. Lighter shades of sky blue send signals of calm and peace. Suddenly soft hints of eggshell blue are appearing in summer linens and ceramics. I wandered in to a local store in my French town and was so tempted to buy handfuls of serviettes and plates but stepped away!
Feng Shui Blues
How to use the different variations? Blue represents water and is a symbol of growth and the general flow of things. I have used a bright navy blue in the wealth sector along with tropical green and a lovely, expensive Chinese white and navy plant pot is in the far top right corner to encourage wealth and prosperity. Tan and pastel aqua French chairs that have travelled with us for years are in the bedroom for the relationship corner. A little water adds emotion in this sector which is always healthy in a partnership but too much can add drama. An obi of soft teal, petrol blue and lavender grey hangs on the door in the career sector to beckon opportunities. Regardless of where we live, there is always a patch of blue.
