My Feng Shui mentor, Clear Englebert has counselled me through so many living spaces from a Malaysian apartment, an 18th century townhouse, classic New York high rise shoebox, German Hof space and now in France in a small but lovely final location. Although I believe I am good student, I seek his wisdom to help me balance the space for my interior harmony. There are some key tools that are constantly needed and some great tips that you can consider immediately. I do recommend his book Feng Shui Demystified and you can read my interview with him in another post. https://interiorharmonyblog.com/2018/12/03/feng-shui-expert-clear-englebert/
Crystals
You will need clear crystal faceted balls which can be found on websites or check out your local crystal stores. They should be clear and the best crystal you can buy. Hold them up and you should see rainbows bouncing from the light coming through them. If they are dull, look elsewhere. If you can get octagonal ones, even better. However, recently, I had to make do with two expensive but floral shape crystals. Not trusting delivery services where I live, these will be fine until others can be sourced. They are used to re-direct energy in a room. For example, when we enter our apartment, there is a split level wall between two windows and the front door – as if you are not sure which window to look at. A crystal ball will be hung between the front door and window to prevent the split view affecting the energy of the apartment. Another example is when you have a long window and what is called the ‘corridor effect’, where as you walk in, your eyes go straight to the view or window and the Chi energy is literally going straight to the windows and out of your living space. Hang a crystal ball at the top space of the window edge stating that this keeps the energy of that sector in the house/apartment.
Mirrors
These are not Bagua mirrors;, those need to be used carefully by a Feng Shui expert and not a tool I use. Small circular mirrors are fine as they are reflecting or refocusing energy depending on where you use them. My mentor says a good rule to remember is to face the reflective surface towards the problem. Make sure they are clear with no chips. You will hear a lot about putting a small mirror on a drain facing inwards to ensure the drain energy doesn’t affect that room or area. Large ornamental mirrors are also really useful to manage different sectors in your space. We will use a round mirror over the television and a long mirror near the entrance to deflect the energy across the room of what is called a blade wall.
Red
Red is a very active energy and represents the Fire element. Our new kitchen has the classic u-shape with the fire elements of the oven facing the water element of a fridge. We haven’t had this before and Clear recommended placing a red ribbon or tape the length of the induction plate under the bench top. Depending on the space, you may be advised to use a red rug to separate the fire and water elements. With all drains, especially toilets, tie a small red ribbon or twine round the pipe stating that this is cutting off the drain. We will also be painting our front door red!
Final Tips
You will find a range of tips in previous posts and here are the classic recommendations:
- Declutter to clear out unwanted energy, especially around the front door and in cupboards – put those shoes away!
- Keep bathrooms and kitchens clean – no need to be fanatical but clean drains and showers
- Throw away dead flowers – silk or cotton copies or real plants are live energy
- Review your art work and ornaments – ask a friend what they say, I have seen aggressive art in the relationship corner
- In the relationship corner – have sets of two otherwise you are sending out the subconscious message that you are single
- And finally – use your common sense, it isn’t a miracle cure but through balance, you can live with interior harmony
