Having visited interior design stores this weekend, it seems they are stuck in the dark, sombre tones of drab potato colours. It wasn’t inspiring, just depressing and I racked my brain wondering what to write about. The day was a blue sky day but we are coming in to my least favourite time of year, winter, and we need light and life even more this year. Some people even suffer from sad affective disorder (SAD) and use light therapy to lift their spirits. Yes, the comfy colours of Christmas red and green are around the corner but white, beige and blue are there to remind us that the hope of Spring is always close by and that even means for Christmas decorations – I can go crazy with fairy lights and lamps!

Aqua Attack

For the lovers of hot chocolate, coffee and cake, particularly with the pandemic still over our heads, we need comfort which means you can still choose interior colours, decor and accessories. These pastel coloured water bottles offer a sense of fun rather than the clinical steel or black accessories. Equally, these turquoise kettles and pots will add a sense of light in a kitchen. Of course, check out the Feng Shui colours in my other posts but brighten up your decor. These lovely kitchen accessories are available in lemon, red, green and even pink!

Keep it Light

There are main lights, practical lighting for cooking and the bathroom and softer lights to highlight a space or to give a sense of warmth and life. Other posts outline how to use light in your interior design and in alignment with Feng Shui practice. https://interiorharmonyblog.com/2020/01/26/lights-and-lamps-yin-and-yang-energy/ and https://interiorharmonyblog.com/2019/04/28/lights-a-wow-factor/  Check out brocantes, fleamarkets and antique stalls for lamps and bargains and look beyond their appearance. Change the shade to match a colour, paint the base if wood or spray it a different metal colour if it is brass or dull.

Creature Comforts

Then sometimes you just have to grab a throw or a blanket, put on comfy clothes and settle in. If you are in this mode and you can afford to, get the best faux fur throw and cushions you can afford – Zara Home have some inexpensive decor and you can buy them online. Get out of those old tracksuits and buy some new casual clothes or pyjamas in light, happy colours and put on those lamps to light up the night!
