I watched a wonderful film called The Glorias around the life of Gloria Steinem and the feminist movement which really focuses on equality for both genders and all races and life choices. Interestingly, Feng Shui seeks a balance and equality between Yang, the masculine energy and Yin, the feminine twin. The classic black and white symbol shows white with a piece of black and black with white. Each balances the other and with either element missing, neither can exist without imploding.

Yin – What is It?

Yin black symbolises the cool, calm silence of the moon and stars in the night. It is about feeling deeply and being honest and authentic; about listening and like the moon, reflecting. Too much Yin is isolating, too introverted and blurs relationship boundaries and energy. It needs a pick up.

The white Yang energy is all about leading, activating, moving forward, driving life and the sun dynamics of the day. Too much Yang shows in being overwhelmed, being a classic Type A person and always needing to win. Right now, you are probably recognising one or the other being more dominant in your life and personality! It needs to stop and take a break.

How Can Feng Shui Help?

As I stated in my first post, we can’t always control what happens outside of our living space and living in 2020 definitely shows that in every area of life at the moment. We are seeing an overdrive of Yang energy which can divide and conquer and takes no prisoners. There is a definite lack of Yin reflection and inner self awareness, it is all about expressing ourselves which is an irony at the moment, and that is coming from a person who loves to sing and speak! Using Feng Shui helps balance your interior living space to at least be able to retreat, recover and re-balance.

Yin Balancing

If you find your living space jangles you, interrupts your space and lacks a sense of relaxation, look around and assess the colours and placement of furniture. Bright colours such as red and orange are the Fire element and if added to lots of Wood, you are stimulating your environment with growth and dynamism. Consider where to use Fire in the Bagua map and consider where your bedroom is, you may have too much Yang energy. A bedroom should have more Yin elements than Yang while we often see Yang energy in the kitchen and dining rooms. Often our bathrooms are too Yin which includes too many water elements, stone representing the Earth elements and white can help balance this out but you need to check out where your bathroom is in the Bagua Map. If you need to tone down the energy, balance with soft, calm Yin colours.

Yang Balancing

Then you have a room that is too quiet, feels depressing and is often the spare room where no one goes. Check out where your spare room/bedroom is as that could show a part of your life that is dormant or lacking. Counteract the stillness with brighter colours and brighter light and use the space! Even if you are just going in there to take a call. Open the curtains and turn on the light to re-establish a sense of light and life. It is all about creating an inner balance and an inner harmony.
