Face Yoga offers long-term rejuvenation and nurturing for those who are searching for a natural way to embrace and work with the body’s natural process of aging.

Does your outward appearance reflect your inner being?

Whether you’ve accepted the lines and the natural process of aging, you simply want to relax and get rid of jaw tension, tired eyes, neck pain, and headaches that you’re frequently prone to, or just want to walk out the door every morning looking like you’re born anew — natural, glowing, and with confident radiance, Face Yoga can help you gain more awareness, confidence, and renewal with each session.

What is Face Yoga?

Face Yoga prevents the effects of gravity on the face and can reverse years of ingrained facial expressions. We slow down poses with our breathing to cultivate awareness in your mind, body, and spirit.

Face Yoga is a series of exercises to sculpt the facial muscles through breathwork by isolating facial muscles through relaxation and contraction. Face Yoga also combines stretching and breathing exercises to strengthen and relax your face and neck muscles to keep your face in shape. It’s similar to a gym workout to tone, sculpt and relax your body.

Face Yoga adds suppleness and tone to the geography of your face as it changes due to the natural loss of bone density, fatty deposits, and muscle integrity with age. Effective at building facial symmetry and retraining the expressions of the face, Face Yoga can be done anywhere, at any time, and only takes a few minutes to do each day. Consistency is key to real and lasting results in Face Yoga.

Face Yoga empowers you to age gracefully through self-awareness, while reconditioning muscles and facial expressions to prevent and smooth out the skin with the ancient exercises from wholistic Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Face Yoga stimulates blood circulation to create a glowing complexion, encourages lymphatic drainage for depuffing and detoxifying the face, and increases the natural production of the skin-plumping proteins — collagen and elastin.

Face Yoga helps you retrain the habitual movements and expressions by waking up and relaxing the muscles, similar to exercising the body.

Face Yoga and Chinese Medicine

The elements of Chinese Medicine of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water can be observed with the changes of colors in your complexion and the contours and ridges of the bony features in your face. These are the same elements found in Feng Shui and are the elements that make up the Chinese meridians or channels that run through your body. Upon these channels lie points that are used in acupressure and acupuncture sessions. These points are found all over the body, including your face, neck, and head. Therefore, if you start to connect the dots, you can see and realize how Face Yoga and Chinese Medicine can go well together!

To dive a little deeper: The landmarks of the face, such as the contours, ridges, blemishes, wrinkles, spots, and complexion tell a story of your life. These landmarks are the basis of face reading and face mapping. Although similar, but not the same, face reading and face mapping have long served to give information about people to Chinese Medicine practitioners, like myself, human resource recruiters, and most recently to estheticians and facialists.

Face reading gives a story of your life. These experiences show up as discoloration, wrinkles and lines in specific parts of your face. The oldest and first use of face reading in China was to diagnose illness. It is similar to when your general physician notices any discoloration of your complexion, tongue, or eyes could be tied to heart, liver, or blood condition. By working through emotional trauma and events, these wrinkles and lines and discoloration can disappear. Note this: Suppressed emotions over time will always show up on the face. As these markings are helpful in developing an idea of one’s life, I find it fascinating to think about how emotions, mindset, and physical expression can be seen just by looking at someone. If you’re seeking to know more, one of my favorite books is by Lillian Bridges Face Reading in Chinese Medicine. This is one of the reasons Face Yoga is so helpful with releasing emotions by bringing awareness to your expressions and emotional state. It is not without a doubt that over time aging and gravity influence the features of our face, posture, and outlook on life.

Face mapping is a part of face reading because the face is divided into organ zones which map what might be happening within the body. You can use a face map to discover why you have a blemish or dryness in a certain area of the face. For example, if you are female and have acne along your jawline, it could indicate that your hormones are off. The region of your jawline is associated with the liver. The liver in western medicine filters toxins and metabolizes hormones, whilst in Chinese medicine, it governs the blood and courses the qi. Essentially, if the liver is not functioning and is stagnant, the toxins and hormones will stay in the body, thus causing acne along the jawline. As you can see, Chinese medicine and western medicine do not always translate well into one another. However; you can understand that there are patterns that can be seen over and over again. And with the right questions, you can find out what the problem lies. While you can find maps of the face on the internet, face mapping and face reading are really meant to guide you to observe and increase awareness about yourself. As a practitioner, I use other supportive diagnostic tools to help me find out what’s going on with my clients. Therefore, if you’re just getting into face reading and face mapping, there is much to be left to further questioning and interpretation.

I enjoy combining these ideas of Chinese medicine into my face yoga sessions using acupressure and poses to help you bring more awareness to yourself. As much of a quick fix many people would like to reverse the ageing process, this practice is meant to be a long one of self-love and self-care to help you break through the causes of ageing, mentally, physically, and emotionally.
