As week 4 of the German Coronavirus lock down starts, several of us have remarked that it has become a ‘month of Sundays’. This has led to what gives us comfort, what we feel we need to make us feel safe, happy and at home. Having lived in some shabby, not chic places in the past, a comfortable interior space can help balance inner harmony. So, I have come full circle of why I started this blog. Here are my key interior space needs:

A Shower

I still think it is one of the best inventions outside of necessary items such as a toilet. You may be a bath person but it has the same effect, one of cleansing and starting anew. It is the feeling of water washing away all negative feelings. We have always replaced our shower heads with a gentle rainshower. That and a big fluffy towel, can make all the difference to the start of a day.

Comfortable Bed

When visiting New York for the first time, we slept in a tiny Holiday Inn and fell in love with the bed. Fast forward 6 months and we were moving there. We asked what the mattress was. We were told it was a Simmons so we went out and bought one. Our spare bed is the same and visitors have all said that the bed is amazing. We will move to Antibes eventually and will take this bed with us. It is a haven when ill, fed up or just needing some rest. Other tips, get European pillows that hug around the neck, a lightweight duck down duvet and cotton sheets.

Kitchen

This is really my husband’s need but a functioning kitchen is important and, sorry, with a dishwasher. I never wanted to be a housewife and anything that can short cut cleaning, I am for it! A big fridge and freezer has been an absolute bonus during this horrible lockdown. Comfort food and wine have been essential. And I am also embarrassed to admit it but a Nespresso machine and soda stream have been well used and valued.

The Sofa

This has become the primary spot to live. We work out in front of the TV during the lockdown and enjoy the balcony as the weather improves, but it is the sofa, a second bed, that has become the centre of the apartment. It is wide and seats three. I still recommend some of the IKEA sofas but if you can afford one, BoConcept make a great couch as well. And on that note, I am going to sit on the sofa, watch the TV and have a nice cup of coffee!
