In this unprecedented time of our lives, there is so much information, instruction, social media on how to learn, do, act and improve. I find it overwhelming and after reading an article in the Guardian about mindlessness rather than mindfulness, I need to mellow out. While I am happy to talk to friends and share any feelings and updates, I want to focus on the day and enjoy a time of just being.
As the spring weather starts to show blue sky days, we changed the bed linen back to the summer look and it has instantly cheered us up. Today, we are cleaning the balcony and also adding touches of lemon to that extra ‘room’. We are so appreciative of having a space that allows us to be outside without having to move on and we can watch the squirrels run up the tree to visit for their breakfast. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/30/how-can-you-feel-safe-amid-coronavirus-swap-mindfulness-for-mindlessness
Colour Psychology – Yellow
Let’s talk about what yellow is supposed to do for the mind. Yellow is all about the summer, light and energy. It is said to boost our levels of activity and is instantly noticeable. A note; colour psychologists still recommend a touch rather than masses of colour as it can overload the senses. Yellow can be too energetic and is said to increase levels of frustration. So, it is all about a hint in accessories or accent furniture, cushions or vases of bright daffodils.
Where to Use In Feng Shui Practice
Yellow symbolises the Earth element and the stomach chakra. It aligns with being grounded, centred and aware of our core sense of being. In the Bagua map, it is ideal for the centre of your house and to ground relationships in the relationship corner. The ideal colour to use in the relationship corner is rose or pink. Neither of us likes this colour so we happily used touches of lemon which makes us instantly happier. You can also use stone to ‘soak’ up the Water element in the bathroom if you have too much. We have done this in our French bathroom to minimalist the draining of energy via water.
What Shade of Yellow?
Yellow and white offer a clean colour palette that is fresh. However, interior designers seem to prefer to use it as an accent colour with plenty of white negative space. (Remember that negative space is usually white or black to allow another colour to shine). If you are brave, it can be mixed with another bright colour such as blue, purple or green. I prefer the cleaner shades of lemon. It reminds me of the sun, beach, sand and France and instantly makes me happy!
