Green is an amazing Feng Shui colour to use. In Feng Shui, this colour represents nature, trees and plants. In the Bagua Map, green represents the Wood element and naturally, symbolises growth, new beginnings, healing and good health. It can be used as a dominant colour, or touches in cushions and accessories can be enough. Just a note, if you over-use it or use it in the wrong sector, it can unbalance the Chi and give a sense of too much activity, too much growth and over-commitment. This can easily be balanced with other elements.
We used green as the main colour for our past French dining room which is in the Wealth sector. We chose fir green chairs as they represented wealth and growth. Other colours were the Earth tone of ivory and touches of royal blue; all colours that resonate with Earth, Wood and Water for growth. There were some touches of metal with brass and gold in light fittings. As this was the Wealth sector, we spent as much as possible in the furniture as this sends out the Feng Shui intention of wealth and prosperity in all aspects.
Inner Knowledge
This is a great area to combine green and blue as Wood grows in Earth. Inner Knowledge is all about growth and self discovery. Tropical greens can be really restful and if this is a bedroom or living area, a sense of balance can easily be achieved. Yellow-based tones are ideal as they represent nature and growth.
Family & Health and Wealth & Prosperity
These are great areas for green, being the key Wood sectors. That being said, my Berlin kitchen was in this area and not being a fan of strong greens, I chose to go with stone and earth colours, adding wood in the floor and accessories. Good fruit and vegetables can be part of this area. Keep it clean, uncluttered and fresh – throw out old flowers, food and dying plants. You can also combine some really rich colours of purple and green to enhance these sectors.
Where Not to Use Green
The rest of the Bagua map shows areas that have the Metal element. This element cuts down wood and it is not a good place to use green or Wood accessories as metal cuts down wood. If you have this as a colour you can’t change, balance with the 5 Elements approach. This means using equal amounts of all of the Feng Shui elements – Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth.
