I love silver, there is something chic and elegant about the metal. Let’s look at what Silver means in Feng Shui. Silver represents the Metal element which is all about cutting through for clarity, structure and decisions, representing focus and honesty and on the negative side, bluntness and coldness. This element is nourished by Earth – think crystals and sand as metallic and Metal nourishes the Water element. On the negative side, Metal is melted by Fire so be careful where you mix these elements.

The colours for Metal range from whites, to pale greys to silver. So we are in the perfect season for decorating in Silver! Check out baubles for the tree, silver lights – these leaf ones are my favourite. There are some lovely silver glass chandeliers as well that add to that elegant look.

What About Gold?!

Gold is also metal and I love the Art Deco gold style. Our past French apartment had the dining room in the Wealth sector. We bought 6 green fabric chairs and with the Wood element, we added some gold metal. It needed to be just touches. We were going for a metal Art Deco main light and the Five Elements cycle was used to balance. This is where you balance all of the elements of Water, Fire, Earth, Metal and Wood. Metal cuts down Wood and this is the key element in the Wealth sector. You definitely don’t want to be cutting down your Wealth! We added royal blue touches for Water, images of green foliage for Wood including the wooden table; and buttermilk walls for Earth combined with candles or lights for Fire.

Where to Use Metal and Where to Avoid

Metal should definitely be avoided in the Fame and Reputation sector. The element here is Fire and this melts Metal. If you can’t avoid it, use the Five Elements balance method as in the above paragraph. If you check the Bagua map, the ideal areas are the Creativity/Children sector and the Helpful People area. We will also use Gold metal in the Relationship corner as we are going for an Art Deco touch. Choose carefully. I chose pairs of gold birds which are perfect for the Relationship corner. Christmas is a perfect time to find gold decorations that can be used all year around. I bought two lovely gold ceramic apples – here’s to new decisions coming to fruition!
