We had finally moved in to our new French apartment in Antibes. Two chairs and an inflatable bed is all the key furniture we had at this time. However, it gave us the chance to really Feng Shui all rooms. It was an apartment with some interesting aspects, least of all, having a blade wall! So six crystals and various mirrors later, we are almost ready to go. Here is what we needed to do.
Welcome!
We cleaned the apartment thoroughly and went through each room with a stick of incense to freshen the air and to release all negative energy. Yes, you feel a bit silly doing this but it doesn’t harm anyone. If you don’t have incense, spraying salt water can also work or a fragrant candle. Go in to each corner and open up any cupboards as well.
The Front Door
We placed a brass name plate on the door which we was polished with wax. The front door enters in the Career section and had an air-conditioner outlet above the lintel of the door. A crystal was placed under the outlet to prevent any negative energy entering. We also painted the initial wall in a deeper grey. The view is immediately in to what is called a ‘split view’ where your Chi (energy) could go to either room which is confusing. A mirror facing inwards was placed there to avoid any negative energy occurring. I also needed to place a crystal from the ceiling.
The Bedroom
This was in the Travel and Helpful People sector and was already painted in a mushroom grey. Fortunately, all of our previous furniture fitted. There was another air conditioner outlet above the right of the bed and I placed a crystal there by the wall. There were poison arrows from the edges of the window walls. See a previous post on ‘poison arrows’. Curtains fixed this. https://interiorharmonyblog.com/2019/10/06/feng-shui-conversations-poison-arrows/
The Lounge
This is where the blade wall was. Basically, the shape of the apartment looked like a hatchet and the blade edge was the stone wall in the lounge. Feng Shui practice is not to sit against this kind of wall. That was fine as we placed a 1920s cocktail bar there and fixed a brass mirror above. The TV outlet was in a position that makes sense to have the sofa opposite which meant not being able to see people enter the room. An easy fix; we placed a brass sunburst mirror above the TV so we could see people enter. The classic long French window style needed a crystal hung above from the ceiling or window frame to stop energy going out of the windows. The mushroom grey paint added a soft putty colour in the lovely sunlight. We decorated in caffe latte tones, ivory and brass and this decor aligned with the Earth element of the Relationship corner.
The Dining Room
This was a narrow room and was in the Fortune Sector which means Wood as the element and lots of rich tropical green and cobalt blue. I hadn’t decorated in these colours for years, so a bit of a challenge. We bought a lovely round wooden table with brass legs. At this point, we chose a soft moss green shade with highlights of cobalt blue against a cream colour for the negative space. Our A-frame Chinese cabinet is was painted a light green which was by chance called Antibes Green! Yes, I needed to hang a crystal in the window as with the other windows. The walls were painted as soft earth tone.
The Kitchen
This is the Family sector and we added sky blue tones to the lovely buttermilk cabinets. Practically, it is placed back to back with the bathroom for the plumbing. In Feng Shui practice, it is important to manage the water flows from all areas. I placed a mirror inside next to the main water pipe and stated that this will keep any bath water or negative energy from the bathroom. A crystal needed to be hung above the bathroom door to keep all draining energy away from the kitchen.
The Bathroom
The usual mirror, shiny side facing inwards, was place under any main water pipes. To ‘ground’ the water, we needed to add ceramics and stone. It is still said to be in the Inner Knowledge area and the ceramic tiles are a soft putty stone colour. We had already bought coffee colour towels and added pottery. We bought a banquette and painted it a soft coffee shade and the sink cabinet a caffe latte colour. It was exciting and we hoped to have our main furniture there in the December!
