If you have read earlier posts, you know that you place the Bagua map over your floor plan with the Career Sector wall over your main entrance and placed as if you were entering that space. This means that your front door – an important Feng Shui factor, will either be in Inner Knowledge or Career or the Travel and Helpful People sectors. Don’t forget balconies and gardens as part of the overall grid of 9 sections. If you have a double storey place, you will need to orient the Bagua map from the entrance you step in to. The same with a basement or attic, align the main entrance of that level with the wall of the Career Sector. Some of you may use two doors, the main one for everyone else and say, the garage or back door for general use. You need to consider both but always the main front door is the one that should have attention, no clutter and be kept attractive to the outside world.

The Key Rooms

There are three main areas that Feng Shui practice focuses on – the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. These are key rooms that we use a lot. Ideally, when buying or renting a property, try to avoid the following if possible:

  • ‘Missing’ Wealth and Relationship corners – the far left and far right of the map and obviously important
  • A bathroom in the centre of your whole map and space – this is water that needs to be managed as it drains energy
  • The garage – only include if it is being used as a space other than for parking the car – for example, a work room or bedroom
  • Check out where the bathroom is – avoid having it in the Wealth and Relationship corners
  • And don’t panic if your place has any of these features, the majority can be balanced

I Have Missing Sectors!

Few modern houses or apartments are a full square, many are L-shaped due to modern architecture or have balconies attached. Have a good look and ask what area is missing and also what area is extended. If the area sticking out is less than 50% of the total map, then you have an extension, if more than 50% is missing, then you have a missing sector. (Chapter 5, Feng Shui Demystified; Clear Englebert).  Australian houses are generally one level and open plan with an L-shape and the garden is often in one of the far corners. European apartments often have the stairwell in one of the corners. So how do we remedy this?

A Missing Area

Place the largest mirror you can buy on an inside wall facing inwards and state that, “This mirror extends the wall so there is no missing area”.  If you have an extension, you can use a small round craft mirror with the reflective side facing inwards to the room stating, “This mirror pushes out and extends the wall so there is no missing area.” If you have your garden in a sector, go to the farthest corner and place a light, a pole or some sort of feature that has height and is like a beacon for the rest of the space. In a former house, we used a lovely water fountain which was tall and had a lovely sound. But don’t forget to keep it clean! For balconies, use mirrors to push out the interior wall to extend so there is no missing area. If it is a balcony, match the colours and decor according to the Bagua map and keep it clean!
