Purple is the wealth colour in Feng Shui. However, it needs to be used carefully as, like red, it can be too active in most of the Bagua map sectors. Across cultures, it is associated with wealth, nobility and prestige. You don’t have to use a lot of it as sometimes a touch is all you need. I am not a fan of the colour but if I need to use it, consider softer lavender tones. It is partnered with the element of Wood and touches of green and purple can be very chic. If it isn’t a favourite of yours, add wood and green in the Wealth and Prosperity corner.
It is best to avoid purple in all other parts of the Bagua map. However, you can apply the map on each room starting with the door way as indicated above. A soft purple vase was placed in our Berlin apartment in the wealth sector of our relationship corner as it suits the decor of the room. Another area that this could work is the Travel and Helpful People sector but my room in that area was so obviously grey, white and metal that purple would bark at the general design. It is also introducing a wood element which is cut down by metal so not recommended.
Bedrooms
If your bedroom is in the Wealth or Relationship sectors, use touches and different shades of purple from soft violet and lavenders to sensual purples. I have used the Five Elements cycle in my Relationship corner. I am not a fan of pinks and rose the room was balanced with wood – the windows, earth with the soft buttermilk paint colour, fire with a touch of cherry red, metal in the picture frames and bedside lamps and finally, water in the soft blues and aqua in the bed linen. Then there is the purple vase!
The Office
This is a great area for your Wealth or Relationship sectors but focus on being really tidy and having a great Chi flow between your desk, chair, windows and door. Even your desk top is important – which has just reminded me to tidy up mine! Touches of purple here can generate wealth but before you paint a wall purple, consider a balance using curtains or accessories in one area of the room.
The Lounge
As in other rooms, if in the Wealth or Relationship sector, activate with various shades and tones. This is where cushions, china and other accessories come in to their own. I love these cushions and tea cups from Zara Home’s latest 2019 collection. Art work can also add elements of wood in images of flowers and growth which can ‘generate’ wealth and prosperity.
