There are so many shades of green – from a blue tint to a yellow hue. For Feng Shui, think more of your typical natural greens and textures of trees, plants and natural fabrics. In the Bagua Map, green represents the Wood element and naturally, symbolises growth, new beginnings, healing and good health. It can be used as a dominant colour or touches in cushions and accessories can be enough. If there is too much of the Wood element in the room, it can unbalance the Chi and give a sense of too much happening and over-commitment. This can easily be balanced with other elements.
Being part of the Wood element, other partners are Earth and Water and can easily balance each other. I have seen the combination of green, black and grey look really chic. Many of you may think immediately about adding plants. I am not a fan of indoor plants – mainly because I haven’t had much luck keeping them alive! If you do use plants, make sure they are healthy, with soft leaves – not spiky. Water and Wood are a great partnership and green glass is an ideal accessory.
Career & Life Harmony
This is a water area and often a front door entrance. If it is where you enter your space, a touch of green can work well with water as part of career growth, but not too much as it can ‘soak up’ too much of the Water element. There are other areas more suited to green and wood.
Inner Knowledge
This is a great area to combine green and blue as Wood grows in Earth. Inner Knowledge is all about growth and self discovery. Tropical greens can be really restful and if this is a bedroom or living area, a sense of balance can easily be achieved.
Family & Health and Wealth & Prosperity
These are great areas for green, being the key Wood sectors. That being said, our past Berlin kitchen was in this area and not being a fan of strong greens, we chose to go with stone and earth colours, adding wood in the floor and accessories. Good fruit and vegetables can be part of this area. Keep it clean, uncluttered and fresh – throw out old flowers, food and dying plants. You can also combine some really rich colours of purple and green to enhance these sectors.
Relationships
There is an Earth element here and Wood definitely needs Earth to grow, greens can be used here effectively. The Berlin master bedroom was in this sector and we have added bedlinen with greens, a hint of pink and buttermilk to offer the elements of wood, earth and water.
Fame & Reputation
The key element here is Fire, and Wood elements feed fire. Green is an ideal combination with reds and oranges. This doesn’t necessarily mean you paint the whole area red! I am not a fan of hot colours; however, so we placed in this sector a Chinese money chest with artwork of harvests and growth and used flowers that usually included reds, oranges and green foliage.
Where Not to Use Green
The rest of the Bagua map shows areas that have the Metal element. This element cuts down wood and it is not a good place to use green or Wood accessories as metal cuts down wood.
