As stated in my post regarding our Berlin Renovation, having a second bedroom or spare room is an area we think we need but sometimes I wonder, when you consider how often it gets used. The first rule is that the room needs to be used; otherwise, the energy for that space becomes stagnant. I did think of using it as an office but I liked the open area of the lounge and dining table. However; I had an area where I can put my laptop and office equipment away. We also had a wardrobe in there which meant we went in to the room frequently. If the spare room is in a key area, re-think and change the bedrooms, move or create the office space, create a reason to go in to the room often to keep the Chi active.
Inner Knowledge – Being next to your front door, a recommendation would be to use this space as a work or craft room. Really keep this tidy and uncluttered using the colours of deep blues and black with stone for the earth element. A study or reading room is a possibility to ensure that the energy doesn’t become stagnant.
Family & Health – Another good area. Use green and wood to balance the elements. As with all spare rooms, use it as much as you can. This could be a good area for a work out or yoga room.
Abundance & Prosperity – This is not ideal as it can mean stagnant prosperity and the message is that this room isn’t key or used that often. A recommendation would be to put an office or work area to really use the space. Add the element of wood and use tones of purple, deep blue and green to keep this area active.
Fame & Reputation – Also not an ideal location for a spare room but could also a place to put an office or use the room for whatever career or activity you seek to gain a positive reputation. Use red and lots of fire and wood elements for balance.
Relationships & Marriage – Definitely not a great area for a spare room. Use elements of stone and earth with touches of yellow. Make sure there are two of everything including any art work to represent relationships. Personally, I would use this as a main bedroom if possible, or put your clothes in this room to ensure you go in there every day.
Creativity & Children – A great area for a child’s room or a craft/work room. Using white and grey paired with the elements of metal and water is effective. Also, have fun in this area as it is about being playful and creative.
Career & Life Path – It would be strange to have a spare room in your front entrance and not ideal but I have seen an entrance used as a dumping area for shoes, coats and bags. Clear the decks, keep it really clean and tidy and make sure the energy has time to ‘walk in’, wait and gently move in to the next area.
Our second bedroom was in the Helpful People & Travel sector – A great sector and it is easy to use the colours of white, grey and black to create a chic bedroom. As it is the travel area, put in black and white photos of travel and places from around the world. We found a great grey globe lamp and original Art Deco travel prints.
