It’s Complicated.

Feng Shui is based on our Chi, our life energy and how we interact with our environment. Like me, you will end up reading so much that is confusing.  There is the original ancient compass method including your personal birth calculation and other aspects, but they are wrapped up in Old Chinese culture, lifestyle and architecture. We will follow the modern Black Hat Method. Using the 5 elements and colour map, an interior space can be created that sings to you.

I am so lucky to have found my mentor, Clear Englebert, and you will soon see a post paying tribute to him.  I recommend you buy his books to gain a good grounding in Feng Shui for houses, gardens and his beautiful Hawaii.  I continue to learn and absorb from other Feng Shui experts.

My blog is focused on providing some simple information and inspiration. You will find what works for you.

Colour Choices

When you walk into a place, and if you are lucky enough to be able to choose it, listen to the space, watch the light and visualise what colours make sense there. My love of blues and soft colours is known to friends as I find them peaceful and a balance of cool water and warm sand with clean white. However, I have lived in places where the colours of lemon and coffee, ruby and ivory, emerald and amethyst, have leapt out as the space speaks to me. My new apartment, as you will see in future posts, will be lemon, apple green against the white with a touch of aqua!  Some like light and space as it resonates with their energy, some like the comfort of the dark and deep colours.  It is your energy responding to what you are focusing on.

I Have To Use Red?

I love the sea in all seasons, the turquoise summer waters, seashells, cafe latte colored sand to the deep winter petrol blue waves, scattered stones, tumbled glass. These are my colours – in case you haven’t noticed! Then my mentor, suggests reds, pinks and purples! Don’t panic, touches can be used, small highlights and hints using modern decor and ideas.

Let’s Open the Door

This is the essential Bagua Feng Shui map you will come to know. Let’s get started.

  • Create a drawing of your whole space within a square
  • Place the map on a drawing of your whole living place using the wall that has the main entrance as if you are entering in the front door – see my Logo!
  • Write on your drawing which rooms or areas are in each square – for example, the kitchen may be in the Health sector
  • Identify ‘missing’ spaces, don’t panic, many of us live in L-shape spaces and   there are simple remedies
  • Highlight the centre of the whole space
  • Note where the bathroom is – more on this later
  • Draw where you have or would place the bedroom

If you have rooms, draw a square for each room using the map placing on the wall that contains the entrance facing inwards and follow the same process. Now you have a plan! Stay tuned for my next post on the 5 Elements and Colours.
